Cataract Surgery
Restore clear vision with modern, proven surgical techniques.
What is a Cataract?
A cataract is a clouding of the eye's natural lens — the part of your eye that focuses light to create clear images on the retina. As a cataract develops, light cannot pass through the lens clearly, and your vision becomes increasingly blurred, dimmed or yellowed.
Why Surgery?
Surgery is the only effective treatment for a cataract. Although no drops or medications can prevent or cure cataracts, early detection and timely surgery offer excellent chances of restoring your vision to normal or near-normal levels.
Signs You May Need Surgery
- Blurred or hazy vision
- Difficulty seeing at night or in low light
- Sensitivity to light and glare
- Fading of colors or yellow tint to vision
- Difficulty reading or recognizing faces
Surgical Techniques & Procedures
Each technique has distinct benefits. Dr. Rutu will recommend the best option for your specific case.
Phacoemulsification (Phaco)
The gold standard for cataract surgery. Uses ultrasound energy to break the cataract into small fragments, which are then gently removed through a 2-3mm incision.
Micro-Incision (MICS)
Similar to Phaco but uses an even smaller incision (1.4-1.8mm). Reduces trauma, speeds healing, and lowers the risk of astigmatism.
Manual Small-Incision (SICS)
A reliable technique using a 6-7mm incision. Excellent for dense, mature cataracts and does not require phacoemulsification equipment.
Femtosecond Laser-Assisted (FLACS)
Uses a laser to create precise incisions and soften the cataract. Offers advanced precision but is most suitable for specific cases.
